Cover Story | |
A new Chamberlain Super 90 tractor pulling two Chamberlain 18 disc ploughs on Mather Bros' property at Kellerberrin in the central wheat belt of Western Australia.
The combined width of cut of the two ploughs (joined by a dual hitch also made by Chamberlain) is 25 feet and they were set to cut 4 inches deep.
The soil in the area pictured is a sandy loam and at the time the ploughing was carried out it was in a hard and dry condition. Nevertheless the Super 90, working in 3rd low gear at 4 3/4 mph, is said to have handled the two ploughs comfortably.
It will be recalled that the Super 90 is fitted with a GM 3.71 Series two stroke diesel engine which develops 85 crankshaft hp at 1,500 rpm.
