Tractor History

This tractor, originally a model 40KA was aquired from Cyril Hilton of Dubbo, New South Wales in March 2005.

The engine (Ford 2704E) now fitted was purchased on the 22/9/1969 and first started at 10:00pm on the 26/9/1969.

The tractor previously had two heart transplants, both were Ford 590E 6cyl diesel engines.

This tractor has been a great work-horse over the years, having worked in excess of 40,000 hours.

SPECIFICATIONS
ENGINE
  • Ford Industrial Model 2704E 6 cylinder vertical in-line diesel.
  • Build No:  1B-A11/212/305
  • Bore 4.124 in.(105mm.) Stroke 4.516 in. (114.7 mm.)
  • Displacement: 360 cubic inch. (5,899 cc.)
  • Governed at max speed 2,400 rpm for this conversion.
  • Firing Order:  1,5,3,6,2,4

COOLING SYSTEM
  • Thermo-Syphon system, Impellor assisted.
  • Temperature controlled by thermostat.
GOVERNOR
  • Mechanical. Controlled by hand lever.
ELECTRICAL
  • 12 Volt starting and lighting system.
  • Twin filament head lamps.
TRANSMISSION
  • A three speed and reverse sliding spur gearbox mounted on the rear of the engine.
  • Coupled by a universally jointed shaft to a high, intermediate and low range gearbox mounted on the front of the differential.
  • The two gearboxes are fitted with seperate change levers.
DIFFERENTIAL
  • Bevel gear type with spiral bevel crown wheel and pinion.
  • Pinion and differential shaft bearings are taper roller.
STEERING BRAKES
  • Individual steering brakes with separate pedals to assist steering under exceptional circumstances.
TYRE AND WHEEL EQUIPMENT
  • Front - 7.50 x 18 on split cast wheels.
  • Rear - 15.0 x 30.0 on split cast wheels, ( Optional rear 13.50 x 32.0 )
  • Rear - 23.1 x 26 on split cast wheels, fitted on this tractor
STEERING
  • Recirculating ball type steering gear.
  • Connected to front wheels by adjustable draglink and track rods fitted with ball joints.
POWER TAKE-OFF
  • Splined shaft is to the A.S.A.E. standard of 1.375 in. 6B
  • Shaft speed is 540 rpm. clockwise rotation (viewed from rear).
  • Height above ground - 33.25 in. on 13.50 x 32.0 tyres.
