Tractor History

Alf Gibbs purchased this tractor 10th April, 1937. This was the first Pneumatic tyred tractor in the area and it sure created at lot of interest and negative comment with it's arrival.  Alf has gone completely mad was the general concensus, you'll spend all you time mending tyre punctures caused by the many mallee roots, sticks and the like that remain on the "New Ground" (term used to describe land that had been cleared of trees ready for tillage).

The Gibbs family had only worked horse teams with their machinery, clearing land and sowing crops till now.  They were excited about their new aquistion, especially young Keith aged 16 years who had the job of feeding and changing the horse teams.  Pumping fuel into a tank to keep the wheels turning was much easier than stuffing chaff and grain into a horse to keep his legs a pumping.

This tractor proved to the whole district it's worth in a very short time, horse teams were put out to pasture and if anyone dared to purchase a steel wheel tractor, he was acclaimed mad.  The W-30 gave great years of service until her colours were lowered with the arrival of those "Orange Monsters" (Chamberlains), with no complaints was content to work with them.

In her senior years, Keith Gibbs fitted a scrub rakes to her front, gave her power steering and used her for pushing mallee roots and timber into heaps ready for burning.  This tractor has been lovingly restored by Keith as part of our family heritage and rests in the Gibbs family Tractor Collection.
